Quick Summary of a great OpenAI updates
According to Kara and Scott’s conversation about OpenAI, the tension between its safety goals and its business goals.
The conversation starts with a discussion about a recent high-profile departure from OpenAI. Yan LeCun, the head of the company's safety team, resigned and publicly criticized OpenAI's focus on "shiny products" over safety. LeCun's departure is just one of many in recent months, and some people are worried that OpenAI is prioritizing profit over safety.
Scott Galloway, one of the participants in the conversation, believes that OpenAI is a for-profit company and should not be pretending to be something it is not. He argues that OpenAI's messaging about safety is disingenuous and that the company is primarily interested in making money. Kara Swisher, the other participant, agrees that OpenAI is a for-profit company, but she is more concerned about the potential risks of AI and believes that more needs to be done to ensure safety.
The conversation also touches on the idea that OpenAI's problems stem from its conflicting origins. OpenAI was founded by both idealistic researchers who wanted to ensure the safety of AI and venture capitalists who wanted to make money. Galloway believes that this conflict will continue to plague OpenAI and may ultimately lead to the company's downfall.
Swisher concludes the conversation by calling for more government regulation of AI companies. She believes that companies like OpenAI cannot be trusted to regulate themselves and that we need laws in place to protect society from the potential dangers of AI.
Summary of this podcast…………
This podcast is about Cara Swisher, a journalist who covers technology. Swisher discusses her career path and her new book, Burn Book: A Tech Love Story.
Swisher began her career in journalism covering technology for the Washington Post. She noticed early on that the internet was going to change everything and that legacy media was slow to pick up on this trend. Swisher believes that there is a future for media, but that media companies need to adapt to the changing landscape.
Swisher offers three pieces of advice for young journalists:
Think of what you are creating as a product. It needs to be entertaining, useful, and unique.
Be aware of the business side of media. Reporters need to understand how to make money in order to be successful.
Have a strong work ethic. Swisher says that she works hard and is always looking for new ways to learn and grow.
Swisher also talks about her book, Burn Book: A Tech Love Story. The book is part memoir and part manifesto. In it, Swisher chronicles the rise of the internet and the dangers it poses to humanity. She also calls on the tech industry to clean up its act.
Swisher says that one of the reasons she wrote the book is because she believes it is important to document history for future generations. She also says that she had a lot to say about the tech industry and that she wanted to share her unique perspective.
Finally, Swisher talks about some of the most interesting people she has met in her career. She says that Elon Musk is one of the CEOs who has changed the most over time. She also says that she finds young people to be more tasteful in their media consumption than older generations.

This podcast is about novel therapies for mental health disorders. Dr. Nolan Williams, an associate professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and director of the Stanford Brain Stimulation Lab, discusses three therapies that his team is developing.
The first therapy is Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation (SAINT). This therapy is for treating severe depression, especially in patients with suicidal ideation. SAINT uses brain mapping to find the ideal stimulation spot for each patient. Then, it delivers pulses of stimulation in a way that is designed to be more effective than traditional treatments. Traditional treatments take weeks or months to work, but SAINT can work in a matter of days.
The second therapy is a ketamine-based treatment. Ketamine is a medication that has been shown to be effective in treating depression. However, it has some side effects, such as short-lived relief. Dr. Williams' team is working on a way to deliver ketamine in a way that reduces these side effects.
The third therapy is based on psychedelics. Psychedelics are a class of drugs that can cause hallucinations. They have shown promise in treating a variety of mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, and addiction. Dr. Williams' team is studying the use of psilocybin, a psychedelic drug that is found in mushrooms.
In addition to discussing these three therapies, Dr. Williams also talks about the Stanford Experimental Therapeutics Hub. The Hub is a new facility that is bringing together physician-scientists from a variety of disciplines to develop new treatments for mental health disorders. The hope is that these new therapies will provide new hope for patients who have not been helped by traditional treatments.
